The Secret Life of Hall Place also offers a unique look into local history as well as literacy skills.

The Home Front (minimum 1 hour)

WWII was called a 'total war' because everyone played a part. This session looks at life on the Home Front and how everyone contributed. Find out about the threats as well as restrictions. Gas, bombing, starvation, invasion and spie, National Service, the change in gender roles, dig for victory, rationing and make do and mend. Note: An air raid siren will sound during this session. Please make sure you accompany your class to the nearest shelter and await for the all clear. Suitable for KS2 children.

The Secret Life of Hall Place (minimum 1 hour)

Bexley was involved in many top secret projects before and during WWII, but none played a greater role than Churchill's 'Ultra weapon'. During WWII, Germany communicated with its armies using a secret code called the Enigma code. This session looks at the important part Hall Place played as an outstation of 'Operation Ultra' the secret code cracking spy network operated from Bletchley Park during WWII. Using rar archive photographs, Morse code machines and coded Tate disks' children take on the role as British and American spies. Suitable for KS2 children.
