Accessibility

Hall Place is on two floors, with level or ramp access throughout. There is a lift to the first floor for those with limited mobility or wheelchair users, and ramps as an alternative to steps.

The approach to the house is via the nursery and visitor centre, a distance of approximately 100 yards.  Seating is available along the route, and two wheelchairs are available for use on site for those who find walking difficult.  If you wish to use the wheelchairs, these can be booked in advance by calling 01322 526574.  We ask those using the wheelchairs to leave credit card details with us, to be handed back on return of the wheelchair.

Temporary disabled parking is available at the main entrance during the car park redevelopment.  More spaces will be available once the car park is expanded in the autumn of 2009.

If you have particular access needs, do call us before your visit on 01322 526574 and we will do our very best to help you.

The nursery and formal gardens are accessible to wheelchair users. More detailed advice can be obtained by telephoning 01322 526574.

Large print guides are available.

Signed tours of the house or gardens can be arranged on request.

Assistance dogs are welcome, however no other dogs are permitted in the house or gardens.

Refreshments

Our new riverside Tea Room offers morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea, including fabulous home made cakes and freshly made sandwiches. The tea room is in the visitor centre and looks over the river Cray to the park land beyond, with a terrace for sitting outside on sunny days. The Tea Room is open 10 a.m. – 4.15 p.m.  You can download a tea room menu here.

During the summer holidays we are also operating our open air catering kiosk, offering the same high quality food as the tea room to take away and enjoy in the gardens or sitting by the river.  The kiosk offers hot and cold drinks, sausage and bacon rolls, sandwiches made on the premises, home made cakes and a selection of crisps and confectionery.  The kiosk will generally be open 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., but we may restrict these opening hours when the weather is bad.  You can view the menu here.

The Jacobean Barn restaurant on the site, operated by Mitchell and Butler, is a pub and Miller and Carter restaurant.

Shop and Tourist Information Centre

Our new shop in the visitor centre offers a wide range of publications, postcards, souvenirs, stationery, gifts, and children’s games and toys. All profits from the shop support the work of the Trust in preserving and promoting Bexley’s heritage.

We also sell plants from the Hall Place gardens, offering a chance to take home a little bit of the wonderful award-winning gardens, and support the Trust’s work at the same time.

Within the shop is a well stocked Tourist Information Centre, and enquiries about the Tourist Information Centre or about places of interest or accommodation in the local area are welcome: telephone 01322 558676.
